DHAHAR — Intense clashes have erupted in the strategic town of Dhahar of Haylaan region as Puntland forces engage in heavy fighting with Eastern-Sool-based terrorist militias dispatched by the federal regime in Mogadishu. At least 5 militans casualities have been reported as Puntland’s military pushes back against what it calls a coordinated campaign of aggression and destabilization.
These militants, handpicked and funded by Villa Somalia, are part of a broader proxy effort to ignite internal chaos and force the people of Puntland into submission under Mogadishu’s failing federal project.
“This is not a local dispute. It is a war of coercion,” a senior Puntland commander said. “These terrorists and their paid leaders from Villa #Somalia are trying to force the people of Puntland into a political structure that has completely failed everywhere else. They want to drag us into their collapse.”
The fighting follows public warnings by President Said Abdullahi Deni, who recently accused the federal government of deliberately deploying forces and stoking conflict in #Puntland’s eastern regions to weaken the autonomous state’s governance and security.
Puntland forces have successfully regained control of key checkpoints in Dhahar and are reinforcing their positions across the front lines. Additional units are being deployed to secure the region from further infiltration.
Calls for complete separation from #Mogadishu are growing louder across Puntland, with citizens and political figures demanding an end to the federal arrangement that has delivered instability, corruption, and open hostility.
“This is not just about Dhahar,” said one analyst. “This is about Puntland’s right to govern itself without being dragged down by the failures of Villa Somalia.”
The situation remains fluid as Puntland prepares for what could become a prolonged confrontation with a regime that has traded governance for militias, mercenaries, and manufactured chaos.
