Mogadishu, (Idil News) – A teenage boy was shot and killed by Somali security forces at Lido Beach in Mogadishu as authorities cleared the area ahead of a visit by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, local reports said on Thursday.

Witnesses said security forces ordered civilians to leave the beach as part of a ceremony for the delegation. When the teenager allegedly refused to comply, he was shot, according to multiple reports. Several others were reportedly injured in the incident.

There was no immediate statement from the federal government on the shooting or the identity of the victim. The Ethiopian prime minister’s visit has prompted tight security measures across the Somali capital, with road closures and restrictions in place.

Reaction on social media platform X was swift, with many expressing outrage over the killing. Some users described it as a heavy-handed response by security forces, underscoring tensions surrounding the high-level visit.

Heartbreaking news from #Mogadishu. A teenage boy lost his life on #LiidoBeach, a tragic symbol of the growing opposition to the elites and their actions. This is going to be a symbol of Ethiopia’s aggression and Somalias lack of firm leadership 🤲🏽 #JusticeForAll @AbiyAhmedAli https://t.co/MMbIWiXKhx
