*INCIDENT SUMMARY*
On Tuesday, 18 August 2026, two explosions struck near a joint Somali Police Force and National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) checkpoint in Mogadishu’s Hodan District.
The checkpoint is located between the Somali-Sudanese Hospital and Digfeer Hospital (ErdoÄŸan Training and Research Hospital). Eyewitnesses reported powerful blasts; security personnel were subsequently deployed to the area.
These incidents bring the total number of reported blasts in the Somali capital on Tuesday to four. Earlier the same day, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) targeted a security checkpoint in Daynile District. Authorities have not confirmed whether the attacks are linked.
The precise nature of the Hodan explosions and the full extent of casualties or damage remain unconfirmed in initial reports. One account indicated a suicide explosion that killed several police officers and injured others.
