In a new written statement, Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said her country is ready to engage in dialogue on strengthening security in the Arctic, including exploring the possibility of deploying the U.S. Golden Dome air defence system in the region.
The only proviso? That Denmark’s territorial integrity is respected in any negotiations.
Her statement comes after Trump’s speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, during which he referenced an agreement with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte on a “framework” for the future of Greenland. Details of this framework, however, have not been divulged, with Rutte claiming Greenland did not feature in his conversation with the U.S. President.
“We can negotiate about everything politically: security, investments, the economy. But we cannot negotiate about our sovereignty,” Frederiksen stated in no uncertain terms, adding that NATO is aware of Denmark’s position on the matter.
