Among the six victims was a soldier, Ahmed Somali,ย  an officer of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA)ย ย  who sacrificed his life to protect the public. Ahmed blocked the explosive-laden car with his own vehicle, preventing it from entering a nearby security camp.

In the aftermath, 13 mortars were fired, some of which struck the security camp. NISA chief Abdullahi Sanbaloolshe visited the site later in the Wednesday where he found that five other mortars had hit civilian homes.

Since Hassan Sheikh Mohamud became president and declared war against Al-Shabaab, the security situation in Mogadishu has deteriorated.ย ย  This attack marks the fifth explosion in the city this August, following the recent attack on Lido Beach.

In response to the increasing violence, United Nations security advisors have taken precautions with their staff and both the US and UK have issued warnings to their citizens to avoid crowds in Mogadishu.
