Somalian aviation authorities are currently investigating a harrowing near collision involving an #Ethiopian_Airlines A350 and a Qatar_Airways 787 over the Gulf of Aden near Somalia. The incident occurred when air traffic control (ATC) mistakenly instructed one of the aircraft to ascend to 40,000 feet.
According to a report from the Somaliland Civil Aviation and Airports Authority, the Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner (registration A7-BCN) narrowly avoided disaster while maintaining a cruising altitude of 38,000 feet on 24 February, 2024. Pilots operating flight QR1383 from #Doha to #Entebbe were directed by ATC to ascend to 40,000 feet within the Mogadishu Flight Information Region (FIR).
The situation escalated when the Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) urgently alerted the pilots to the presence of the other aircraft, prompting swift action. Despite the ATC directive, Qatar Airways crew members opted not to follow the instructions, ultimately averting a potential catastrophe with the Ethiopian Airlines aircraft en route from Addis_Abeba to #Dubai.
