    Garowe: 08 April 2024: Puntland Vice President Engages with Human Rights Defender

    In a significant meeting held at the Puntland government’s headquarters in Garowe, Acting President and Vice President Mr. Ilyas Osman Lugatoor welcomed Chairman of the Office of the Puntland Human Rights Defender, Avv. Said Abdi Mu’min. The meeting, which took place on April 8, 2024, focused on crucial issues surrounding human rights, security, and the judiciary in the region.

    During the meeting, discussions delved into the current state of human rights in Puntland, highlighting areas of concern and avenues for improvement. Security matters, vital for the stability and well-being of the region, were also addressed, underscoring the importance of ensuring the safety and protection of all residents.

    Of particular significance was the engagement on judicial matters, emphasizing the role of the judiciary in upholding the rule of law and safeguarding human rights. The dialogue aimed to identify challenges within the judicial system and explore strategies for enhancing its effectiveness and accessibility to all citizens.

    Avv. Said Abdi Mu’min, the esteemed Chairman of the Office of the Puntland Human Rights Defender, provided a comprehensive overview of the activities undertaken by the office. He emphasized the crucial role of monitoring human rights violations and advocating for their protection in Puntland.

    Expressing his appreciation for the efforts and dedication of the Puntland Human Rights Defender’s Office, Acting President Mr. Ilyas Osman Lugatoor commended the team for its outstanding performance in safeguarding the rights of Puntland residents. He reiterated the government’s commitment to upholding human rights principles and pledged support for the continued development and expansion of the office’s activities.

     

    The meeting underscored the importance of collaboration and partnership between government institutions and civil society organizations in advancing human rights and fostering a culture of accountability and transparency in Puntland. It served as a testament to the government’s commitment to promoting and protecting the fundamental rights and freedoms of all individuals within the region.
