At least 10 soldiers have been killed following heavy fighting in Baidoa on Saturday morning, according to multiple local reports, after clashes erupted between federal forces and units aligned with Southwest State President Abdulaziz Hassan Mohamed Laftagareen.
Sources also report that several civilians were killed or injured during the fighting, although exact casualty figures remain unclear due to the fluid security situation and limited independent verification.
The violence reportedly escalated after forces loyal to Laftagareen entered parts of Baidoa and advanced toward strategic locations, including Afar Irdoodka in the city centre, before later withdrawing to the outskirts of the city.
Witnesses describe continued tension in and around Baidoa, with armed groups still positioned on the city’s periphery and sporadic movement reported in surrounding areas.
The situation remains fragile, and authorities have not yet issued an official confirmation regarding casualty numbers or territorial control.
